Lone inventors tinkering in their sheds have developed some of New Zealand’s most innovative ideas, from the electric fence to the egg beater.

In the environmental space, RiverWatch set about developing a simple, portable water monitoring system that could help us in the fight against New Zealand’s declining water quality.

Concerned for rural waterways fouled by intensive farming, South Wairarapa farmer, Grant Muir wanted to find a simpler, more cost-effective method for water testing.

Out of this came RiverWatch: a unit that allows real-time freshwater testing for a low cost.

RiverWatch, equipped with unique probes, measure water quality data, including pH, temperature, conductivity, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen.
