The beginning of something big

After months, months,  and months of incubating, 9Wire has finally hatched.

We've been feverishly working away and we're so grateful to the warm reception we received at our launch event on Sunday, 26 May at Zealandia.

We have been so passionate about the potential of this project and the impact it will have on the environmental innovation ecosystem. We know that, while Aotearoa is chock-full of inventors and pioneers, the path from the blackboard to reality can be rocky. We want to be the bridge over those hurdles so innovations can begin making a positive change to the environment.

After a beautiful mihi whakatau by WWF-New Zealand board member, Rau Kirikiri, Chief Panda, Livia Esterhazy kicked things off by introducing the room to 9Wire and why it's time for 9Wire thinking:

"Our old way of thinking was just not going to cut it anymore. We needed to totally revolutionise the way we assisted innovators on their path to success for the sake of the environment, and us all. WWF could no longer just give money or short-term support and expect our environment to improve without shifting our entire vision to support these people with the innovations that just might save our world."

At the launch, Livia was joined by the 9Wire partners:  Ākina, Auckland Council, Callaghan Innovations, Department of Conservation, Ministry for the Environment and the Ministry for Primary Industries.

Ministry for the Environment Chief Executive Vicky Robertson reminded all of us WHY we need 9Wire. The Environment Aotearoa 2019 report was stark reading and a warning of what is to come if we don't make changes, now. But, she knows the solutions are out there:

"The more that we can show that there is an avenue for people to innovate and create businesses that actually do good for the environment, the better. "

Some incredible Kiwi innovators were also at the launch, introduced by Department of Conservation Director-General Lou Sanson. Who illustrated how important the role of innovation is to the environment.

We feel incredibly honoured to have such an amazing 9Wire team, excited about all of you finally getting to be a part of the 9Wire journey, and thrilled to see what has been percolating in the minds of Kiwi innovators.

We can't wait to help you not just improve on the known but support you as you create the unknown!
